The Fitzgerald family, hereditary Knights of Glin, have lived on the site of Glin Castle for 700 years. The present structure was built in the 18th century and is surrounded by formal gardens including a number of follies. The interior oozes history with a fine collection of portraits and antiques from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Family portraits peer down from the walls, watching you use their silver and crystal. The bay window looks out over the lawn and the River Shannon. The menu is local fish and game, and vegetables from the walled garden.

Things to Do

Glin Castle is ideally situated to tour either Kerry or Clare, two of the top tourist counties in Ireland. Tourist amenities include The Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, and The Burren. There are numerous towns such as Killarney with traditional pubs, Irish music, and craft shops. Visitors can also pursue a host of outdoor such as river and lake fishing, horse riding, shooting and hill walking trekking and water sports.
