The
Fitzgerald family, hereditary Knights of Glin, have lived
on the site of Glin Castle for 700 years. The present structure
was built in the 18th century and is surrounded by formal
gardens including a number of follies. The interior oozes
history with a fine collection of portraits and antiques
from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
Family
portraits peer down from the walls, watching you use their
silver and crystal. The bay window looks out over the lawn
and the River Shannon. The menu is local fish and game,
and vegetables from the walled garden.
